Who says you can’t have apple crumble for breakfast. (Gigs too!)

That’s right, home-made apple crumble from the Wakefield market. The farmer’s market is something that can enhance your life to no end, what with all the fresh vegetables, local meats, herbs, honey, crafts, fair trade coffee…all the wonderful treats & treasures of life, right there in a circle on the grass beside the trees. Of course the best thing about this particular market is the live music, the soundtrack that weaves through your Saturday morning. If you are anywhere near a farmer’s market, check it out, your life will be forever changed because you will most definitely add a new Saturday Summer tradition to your weekly agenda. We are so lucky to have such wonderful nourishment right at our finger tips, but still, people go to Loblaws or the IGA once a week and buy the California veggies, why is that? Buy local if you can, everyone will be better for it J It’s sad times for the farmer’s though, what with the lack of rain. Friends of mine who grow crops of vegetables are losing entire patches because they can’t get enough water to them. This one guy who grows the most succulent of foods has to carry buckets of water to each plant daily, there is NO time to weed, no time to do anything except water and hope it’s enough. Are you praying for rain out there? Let’s do it together, let’s send out a message to the Universe asking for the one thing we all need the most! Rain! Water! Liquid Life!! Come down and drench us!! We need you J

Lindsay LIVE with The Lost Boys... 2moro Night!

Greetings Websurfers, Indeed, I have a gig 2moro night in Wakefield Quebec. That's Thursday the 7th, at The Black Sheep Inn. We've been practicing some new songs as a band, and boy, sometimes they sound SO MUCH BETTER with a band then when I am standing in the kitchen singing to the taps! I will also be on CKCU Radio from 8am til 9:30am in the morning, that's 93.1fm in Ottawa...I may bring out some older recordings for a treat or a laugh... depending...! I will also be performing a few live songs as well... solo style...without the taps. Maggie Meyer from Newfoundland and Megan Hamilton from Toronto will also be singing souls on Thursday night at The Sheep, so if you are in for a trek out to the hills, come join us, the fun starts at 9pm!!!

Life as a music maker is a little slower for me these days, as I am spending my daze, writing new tunes for a new album. I would LOVE to get it released next Spring, Spring 2010. My last album, released September 2007 took a year to organize, so it appears I may indeed have the time to reach my goal date, but I will of course keep you posted on all of that, I still have to choose the right studio, and that's half the battle. The songs are flowing freely and I am stoked to get them recorded...all in good time I suppose!!

Summer will see me traveling a bit, out to the East Coast of Canada for some shows and then out to the West Coast, to the Rocky Mountains!! With an exceptional gig in between at at The Ottawa Bluesfest, on July 10th, where Jackson Browne, Steve Earle and Sam Roberts will also e performing... I am SURE it will be a fabulous night for all!!

As an independent musician, I am always looking for shows. I do all my own booking (so far) and if you have anything exciting happening and are in need of Music Makers, drop me an email. With or without band!! Keep in mind there are 2 Lindsay Styles...or ring me! My number is up there at the top of this page...

On another note, I have fallen in Love with a new band called "Mother Mother" maybe they aren't so NEW, but new to me... I saw them perform a few days back, and it was one of the BEST performances I've ever seen. An amazingly dynamic, creative, melodic, harmonic, and RAW talent type of band. Check them out sometime. One more Canadian Gem to add to our musical roster of greats....

Talk soon, Lindsay xo

A Festival in the Dead of Winter

Recently I had the pleasure of being a part of a wonderful winter festival in Halifax. A quaint music festival in the middle of ice, snow & wind storms a four block radius in downtown Hali...I played my set in a new music venue called "The Company House", a wonderfully attentive room filled with beautiful paintings, cozy atmosphere and locally brewed beer... much like Wakefield's "Black Sheep Inn". It's not easy finding inspiration in the deadly dark nights of winter, but having a music fest at such a time, fills one with wonder, lyrics, melody and sunny blue skies. I happened upon a few rare treasures while sliding through snow drifts and icy streets in my big black Sorel boots... check out the likes of Ana Egge, Meg Hutchinson, Matt Epp & Erin Costelo to name a few...where once I had a songbook in need of new songs, I now have new images, melodies & lyrics to share. I've been spending the last few months away from home, trying to find new music and little did I know that a five day festival on the east coast of Canada was going to re-fuel me, stoke my fire...Oh Canada, Home Sweet Home.  The next few things I have planned in Canada-Land musically, to share... are as follows:  February 14th in Metcalfe @ Lovefest, Sunday Feb. 15th at The Black Swan in Toronto and February 27th in Ottawa at Zaphod Beeblebrox... I look forward to playing some new songs for all of you... Happy trails until we meet again....Lindsay xo

Spring Has Sprung!

Thank you lord Jesus. I am so excited for this warmer weather... can't really take another day of trekking through snowy streets... they don't plow the sidewalks in Toronto, I used to think living in St. John's was bad in the winter time... anyway, no more complaints from me as long as I can put away my winter boots!! In the meantime, Easter is one of my favorite "holidays" In my family we go to the Sugar bush; sleigh rides, maple toffee & a great brunch feed in the middle of nowhere Quebec, then we all head over to some family members house (whoever doesn't mind cleaning up the mess!!) We paint Easter eggs & eat tonnes of chocolate, then the next day we all get together for a major home made waffle breakfast... it's truly scrumptious!! But not this year, this year I was here in the big city, being taken care of by some GREAT Toronto people... most of whom are from the East coast, Cape Breton & Newfoundland... thanks my new (& old) friends... also, a big thanks to the great Geoff Berner... please, if you haven't seen this man LIVE, you have to go. He's on tour in Europe now, so wait 'til he gets back, I promise you will not be disappointed. In the meantime, have a listen to 1010 talk radio www.cfrb.com tonight at 6pm.  Also, get ready for an awesome gig next Monday at The Supermarket in Toronto... featuring  Myself, Dave Gaudet, Meredith

Continued...

So the weather is finally thawing... now that the days are longer, and spring is close... ooh laa laa... things just feel better!! Thankfully!! As for the continuation of my CMW rants... Seeing bands perform from all over the world makes one realize how music REALLY IS the universal language... Ireland, Australia, Toronto, Vancouver... having the pleasure to share the stage with such talent as "Sick of Sarah" a great chick band from the States... definitely check them out!! I had the pleasure of meeting with some great music execs, had a chance to chat with Terry McBride, who was just inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of fame... I saw Moby interviewed aswell; when asked the top 4 things he would do if it was the last day on earth, he replied: eat burritos, play Led Zeppelin covers, drink cheap beer & make sweet Love...on another note, I may be heading over to Germany to play!! What a rush... I can't wait until next year... In the meantime, I have some great things happening here in Toronto...besides having an abundance of performances to listen in on, great food around every corner, a gym membership, gigs to prepare for and an irish session to play in, I have a song-writer night to organize.. This takes place at The Supermarket (in kensington maket) on the last Monday of every month... so stay tuned for all the great artists who will make the roster... the first show is on the 31st of March featuring: Myself, Ron Leary, Meredith Luce & Dave Gaudet. You won't be disappointed!! Talk soon,  Moi xox

To be Continued!!

Greetings you fine people out there. What an incredible Canadian Music Week in Toronto. I had no idea how HUGE this week was going to be. It was an enormous gigantic rush of people in the music industry, all with the same agenda; talk, listen, learn & play!!! What wonderful things to have in common with one another. The energy was great, I just couldn't believe how friendly and wide-eyed every one seemed to be. There were SO many highlights, I just don't know where to begin, hence the title of this blog (I always dislike that word, oh blog!!) "To be continued" because I know there will be more moments to add as the weeks go by. I really am still flying.... one things for sure, if you would like to hear a bit of the hustle and bustle and an interview with me including exerpts from my new album "sound" have a listen to CFRB Toronto's News Talk Radio on the 23rd of March at 6pm. You can also go to their website & have a listen online at www.cfrb.com I will start by telling you about one major highlight and that was: Having the privilege to hear Alanis Morrissette answer some very personal questions, 20 feet away from me!! Yeah, she was interviewed for an hour... and truly spoke to my heart. She is an inspirational creature, spiritual & quite beautiful. Chatting with Garth Hudson of "The Band" was pretty awe inspiring as well. So I will leave you with that wonderful taste in your mouth and write a little later.... Love Lindsay

Cold Dark Days, YEAH for MUSIC!!

Is it me or is this time of year an energy sucker? All I want to do is lay curled up with a book or a dream, or a new CD. Speaking of new CD's, I went to a wonderful release party... my first introduction to Hugh's Room in Toronto. What a magical place... a "listen if you know what's good for you" type of place... and listen I did (and helped decorate too...) Tannis Slimmon!! What an amazing woman, in fact I couldn't possibly find the right word to describe her, I think I'd have to write a poem maybe... and thanks to these cold dark days, I'm just too darn tired to put pen to paper... though that will all have to change in the coming week, as it's CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK and I will have to be awake & alert for all the crazy days & nights that lay ahead. Anyhoo, life is beautiful, I mean I'm not really complaining, I just really look forward to the sunshine staying & the energy being re-fueled... ya know???

Alanis Morrissette

Bonjour! I had the pleasure of seeing & hearing Ms. M play her heart & soul out at the ACC in Toronto... she was amazing & truly a privilege to see her live, for the first time ever!! What a show, & she played a couple of her new songs too.. they were great. I am quite excited to hear her new album, which isn't out yet!! Also I checked out a band called "Sterling" last night... EXCELLENT new sound, very cool band... the next best thing!! Don't forget, my CMW showcase on the 7th of March... Savannah Room, Toronto. 11pm.

Ciao for now,

Lxo

Canadian Music Week Here I Come!

Hi everyone, so it turns out that I wasn't picked as the regional winner for "radiostar" but at least my music was heard by thousands of people!! "8th Wonder" will just have to wait it's turn... One of the prizes for the contest that I did not win was a trip to Toronto for Canadian Music Week (CMW)...a super cool conference for music industry types). It's really okay though, because I'm going anyway, but, it will just be me that funds it!! I would have liked to win, of course, but at the end of the day, I am the winner... I have this music gift... and I wouldn't trade it for ANY contest in the world... Thanks to everyone who may have voted or sent out the positive energy... better luck next time! Onwards & Upwards I say!!
