Hello Darling people out there... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!I think 2008 is going to be Wunderbar.... New Year's Eve was awesome, I had the pleasure of dancing along to the Sunparlour Players & The Hilotrons & Jet Planes of Abraham... ALL talented "I can't believe they're not famous yet" bands... So onto some SUPERB news...it pleases me to announce that The Ottawa Citizen has once again put it's faith in me & has added my Album "sound" to their Best Canadian Albums of 2007 list, in 2nd place!!! Between Feist's "Reminder" & Blue Rodeo's "Small Miracles"... Also, my song "Bloodstream" came 2nd in a line of Great Canadian Songs for 2007... Things are looking up!! This morning, the first phone call that I received in 2008 was from Bermuda, Bermuda called to ask me if I wanted to play a gig in the summer... so an island gig on the Sea awaits... Have a great SUPER year everyone & I promise I will keep singing... Love Lindsay
Ottawa Citizen: "Best Recording of 2007"
Hey Folks... that's right!! My album "Sound" received 4 out of 5 stars in the "Rock/Pop" category & has made it into this years "Best of 2007" list in The Ottawa Citizen... how cool??? Awesome!!!Other than that news... I am doing a GREAT show at the end of the month, the 28th of December, at The Black Sheep Inn... it will be just me this time, i.e. no rockin' band with me, just a quiet intimate beginning to a Funk filled night of dancing... you see, there will be a fantastic Funk band from Toronto heating up the place, featuring members from "King Sunshine" & my very own drummer boy, Mr. Shawn Rompre... they are called "Funktagon" so come on out & have a great night, dancing off all that Turkey dinner!! On the 20th of December, I will be featured on CKCU, 93.1FM, between 11pm & 12am... lots of Live music, some songs from my new album & some new ones that just might make it onto the next one... with host Charles Anthony, it is a show that you may not want to miss... but I will post it up here just in case you do!!! Take good care people & spread the Lindsay Live vibe!! Happy snow daze....
Mini Tour Success...
Driving in a flurry of snow & rain & sleet & wind is not my idea of pleasure, the rush of adrenaline that surged through my body at any given time while on the road to sing way pretty cool in the long run though. Mum asked me if driving around in crazy weather just to get to the next dive was all worth it & would I do it again? Yes, indeed, some places smell like 20 year old scotch mixed with cigarettes, and in some bizarre way, it all smells like home to me.First trip to Oakville to play, I was stolen at the end by some great new friends who kept me awake with the Demos from Nirvana... if that wasn't pure guts & soul, I don't know what is. Breakfast in the afternoon over hot coffee and visine eyes is a perfect start to a Saturday night gig in Toronto, where even though there was a blizzard from hell, people showed!! They also bought my new album, not realizing in doing so, paid for all the gas & a little interest on my loan... Thanks so much my good Lindsay Lovers... Sunday was a day of freezing rain & I was off to sing in Guelph... it was a brilliant time to go on tour, it was. I felt a little like a Postman... the show must go on!!! Even though I spent only a few hours in T.O in total, I think it may be the next step for this girl & her guitar... If anyone out there has any ideas on how to keep the music & soul alive in this singer if she moves to the Big Smoke, don't hesitate to get in touch...
Moody Blues
Greetings my Beloved Readers... Somedays, nothing seems beloved, there's only a vast empty hollow dark spot, where once there was singing & dancing & thinking about great things. It's strange really, who's to say what we're gonna feel like when we wake up... sometimes good, sometimes not so good. I can totally understand, feeling empty after a great night out... using up all the good stuff on dancing, drinking and talking (maybe a bit too much!) But this whole going to bed early with a nice Cuppa Tea... then getting up & wanting to stay in bed all day... what is that about when there's too much to do to be lazy... Ah well, there are so many damn questions out there to be answered and I suppose life is what happens in the meantime. Now, don't get me wrong, I certainly couldn't be writing this if I was feeling hollow, no I don't go out or answer the phone when I'm in that place... It's easy to talk about this shit after the fact... and seeing as there are no answers, you just have to go through it, hanging onto the rhythm, knowing that will never stop...Thank god for the rhythm.

OTTAWA XPRESS SURVEY!! I'm In!!
I would hope that you are feeling fine on this grey rainy fall day... Just take the time out to get cozy with a cuppa Joe or a suppa Tea... it's the best thing to take away the cold... OR you can go to www.ottawaxpress.ca and fill out their "Best of 2007 survey"... my Album 'Sound' was nominated for the "Best Folk/Country Album" which might not sound exactly right... and the album might just fit better in the "Best Pop etc etc Album" and there IS an option to fill in my name in the "other" category... SO if you so wish to nominate me for any of the "other"categories or just check my name in the one category that I was nominated for... PLEASE DO!!! It is time for me to get my music out to the world and it can only be done via YOU!!! (and me I guess... ) THANKS HEAPS and HEAPS!!! (p.s. the van is still in the garage.... but the rental car has been GREAT! getting the CD's back was a bit miracle-ish... very super cool indeed!!!) k, enjoy. I'll be back soon....
OCFF Conference, CD's found!!!
Hey guys. I an still pretty tired after a crazy weekend of playing HEAPS of music & not sleeping nearly enough. This past weekend was the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals Conference, held in London Ontario. The whole thing started on Thursday and didn't end until the wee hours of Sunday Morning. It's a big conference held once a year where musicians & festival directors, radio stations, publicists etc etc come together to meet each other, try to book acts & all round self promotion. It's music playing with a capital "M." The weekend is a blast, with SO many things to do & places to be... I'm still flying!!! (but SOOOOOOOOO tired!!)
as for the missing 500 cd's.... well they, and my 92 van were found!!! the cd's weren't stolen but my stereo was!! not to mention all the damage that the thieves did to the van.... it's in the garage as we speak. There were MANY people who came to my aid with this issue... I am so grateful to have such a great support network, even people I've never met before... thanks Lynn Saxberg for writing a column about it in The Ottawa Citizen, & thanks to Colin Mills at Healey Disc for offering to replace the stolen Cd's. Big Love goes out to you all.
Bring Back the Sound!
500 copies of Lindsay's new CD, "Sound", have been stolen!!! We need your help. If anyone knows anything, or has seen anyone driving Lindsay's signature white van since Monday, Oct 8th, or where the CDs might be, (cause it's hard to hide 500 CDs), please contact manager@lindsayferguson.com. The van itself, as you might guess, is now less important that getting the CDs back. No charges will be made if the CDs are returned, but that she'll be 100% anonymous with the entire matter.
A Beautiful Storm
Well hello beauty out there! (where is beauty you may ask?) well, there are many different places to find beauty...
One particular location I am thinking of took place on Sunday the 30th of September. People, filled to the brim in a tavern, spilling out to the porch with a beer in one hand & a kid trying to get out of the other. or how about holding onto the kid, while trying to play the trumpet? or maybe it was the 250 people all singing at the same time...there were just so many moments that day, it would be difficult to remember them all.
The last few weeks of mine have had their momentous moments... check out The Ottawa Citizen, The Ottawa Sun, The Xpress... how about going to www.therepublicofavalonradio.com for an interesting pod-cast featuring songs from the new album (that i just released to an all time record high attendance at The Black Sheep Inn, in Wakefield Quebec.) Yeah, it's been crazily wonderful. I was featured on "Bandwidth" with Alan Neal, a half hour interview across Canada on CBC. Holy Shit!! Yeah!! The CD Release itself was intense, and powerful and painful and just pure nutz all at the same time! There were so many people, so close, with the band & me, all of us just saturated in sweaty songs... it was a beautiful storm.
People lined up for an hour just to get me to sign their CD's. I still can't believe it, it all happened so fast!! one guy bought a CD for Burton Cummings & one for MOBY. it felt ridiculously like a dream, signing a CD to MOBY...
in true "lindsaylate" like fashion, i didn't even have a dress picked out until a half hour before the show. if only i had Carolyn Mark's closet... she was playing her heart & soul out the night before my show, with Geoff Berner & Diona Davies. She is one BEAUTIFUL creature & if you haven't been to one of her shows, or seen her live, get out and do it fast!! She's awesome!!! not to mention her lipstick & wardrobe or her witty or that AMAZING smile. yep, I'm in Love.
okay, so besides a brilliant weekend of GREAT music & talent, a mind-blowing CD release party... having some of the FINEST musicians with me, Chris Hopkins, Dave Draves, Lee Bowie, Brian Sanderson, Grady Kelneck & Armand Vienneau i have a couple of other great things happening for the rest of the month (October...)
