Nominated by the Ottawa Xpress, BEST NEW MUSICAL ARTIST 2008!! Vote for me!!!

Greetings from what appears to be a Spring-like day. We had a blizzard a few days ago, out here in the hills. The snow came roaring down and attacked all the glorious trees, breaking some and eliminating all of the colours down to the ground.  No more Autumn in an instant. But now, all the white stuff is gone and I am flat out confused. I think being a Canadian means being a "Seasonal" person. Somewhere deep inside there is a 'seasonal change' box that just knows when to switch to the next phase....well, mine doesn't know if it's living in Spring or Winter or somewhere between.  How about you? One day the skis are out, the next day jean jackets! Whatever the case, confused or not, life is indeed strangely beautiful. I spent my Halloween listening to one of my favourite bands "The Sun Parlour Players". They are mad good, sweaty folk rock good. I passed the evening as a blood-sucking Vampire. It was great, noone knew who I was, so I could REALLY dance as if noone was watching.... I'm not such a dancer, usually I have to be filled with vast glasses of beer and even then it's like pulling teeth. I am meant for singing, that's my excuse but it doesn't always work that way. Especially if Loudlove is playing, they are my ALL TIME FAVOURITE OTTAWA BAND!!! Please check them out, they are on their way to the stars. NO doubt about it. When it comes to their music, beer or no beer, costume or no costume, I am all over that dance floor. Speaking of dance floors, "The Sadies" are playing on my birthday in Ottawa at Barrymore's. I think it'll be a swell night, so if you are reading this and are anywhere near Bank street on the 14th, let's have a cheers!!! I will keep you posted with what's happening next, but for now I have my fingers crossed that I will be voted "Best New Musical Artist of 2008" by the Ottawa Xpress. It's not usually my luck to win anything, but maybe, just maybe  I will get lucky this time (with your help!!)Go to

Mainland Making It...

After having just spent the last two weeks on Canada’s best kept secret Island, Newfoundland I can safely say that it is indeed a whole different world out there with regards to making it in the Canadian Music Industry, with regards to pretty much anything, actually. But more on the music…In any given city across Canada, I have been told that one mustn’t play in that city more than four times a year, excluding St. John’s of course. You see, in St. John’s, you can play four times a week if you really want to because one of the most important things to Newfoundlanders is Music. Music all the time… and why shouldn’t it be that way? I understand things like “not over-playing your welcome” in a sense, but I think everything’s better with Music??? Don’t you? Bonavista is also a very special place. Located up on the East coast, north east of St. John’s about four hours is an incredible place with the most endearing people. What a treat to see there are still folks out there who won’t take no for an answer when it comes to offering up a supper, a drive or a hot cup of tea. Time really gets away from you up there, and not in a busy paced holy @#&% kind of way. More like a fresh air gets in your blood and bones deeper than before and it kind of changes you forever...all in all it was a fabulous journey to the Rock once again. I even wrote a new song that I am very pleased with, called “Volcano”. Come on out to one of my shows and I will sing it for you!! Next Thursday in Ottawa at the St. Elias Centre, all in the name of Women building Peace, then at the Sandbanks Winery on the 4^th for their Harvest Festival… then back to Wakefield for a great night of great bands at the Black Sheep Inn on the 10^th. I’ll be in Belleville opening up for Ron Sexsmith on the 17^th of October at The Empire Theatre…and I’m booking more shows as you read this, you can bet on it!!! Tuesday Already...

Time flies. I dreamt it was Winter last night... I was so sad, I Love Fall so much, it would be a shame to miss it.  Being raised Canadian in the Middle/East Coast means living in a quarterly cycle. It's amazing how the weather affects us...be it wearing shorts in March 'cuz you can smell the Summer coming or just getting that big ole' bag of scarves out for Fall. I can't imagine living somewhere hot all year round... I know, maybe when I'm grey, I might like one long heat wave, but for now I am can smell Autumn in the air and I like it. The last few days were spent driving, listening to tunes, singing, sleeping and enjoying HOT coffee in the mornings of course... I played songs for new people in new venues too. I Love spreading the Lindsay Vibe out there, it just makes me feel like I am doing what I need to be doing. I get so freaked out sometimes about not getting noticed or press or gigs or funding, and really, it's all about performing. It's like I get re-fueled by YOU, the people. So I would very heartily like to thank all of you out there who come to see my shows, or take home my Album. It means way more than any "no" or "sideways glance." I am in the middle of working on some new songs, I'd like to have a fresh set one day... I suppose all of we singers would like a brand spankin' new set of songs to sing... however, all in good time as "they" say. All these crazy things happen out on the road and I still can't find the words to write down. Too many unfinished songs I tell you!! In any case, I head out to St. John's Newfoundland once more before the end of  Summer to sing some again, I will be writing next time from the Rock. Enjoy, Live Well & Peace!!

I would hope that you are feeling fine on this grey rainy fall day... Just take the time out to get cozy with a cuppa Joe or a suppa Tea... it's the best thing to take away the cold... OR you can go to www.ottawaxpress.ca and fill out their "Best of 2007 survey"... my Album 'Sound' was nominated for the "Best Folk/Country Album" which might not sound exactly right... and the album might just fit better in the "Best Pop etc etc Album" and there IS an option to fill in my name in the "other" category... SO if you so wish to nominate me for any of the "other"categories or just check my name in the one category that I was nominated for... PLEASE DO!!! It is time for me to get my music out to the world and it can only be done via YOU!!! (and me I guess... ) THANKS HEAPS and HEAPS!!! (p.s. the van is still in the garage.... but the rental car has been GREAT! getting the CD's back was a bit miracle-ish... very super cool indeed!!!) k, enjoy. I'll be back soon....

OCFF Conference, CD's found!!!

Hey guys. I an still pretty tired after a crazy weekend of playing HEAPS of music & not sleeping nearly enough. This past weekend was the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals Conference, held in London Ontario. The whole thing started on Thursday and didn't end until the wee hours of Sunday Morning. It's a big conference held once a year where musicians & festival directors, radio stations, publicists etc etc come together to meet each other, try to book acts & all round self promotion. It's music playing with a capital "M." The weekend is a blast, with SO many things to do & places to be... I'm still flying!!! (but SOOOOOOOOO tired!!)

as for the missing 500 cd's.... well they, and my 92 van were found!!! the cd's weren't stolen but my stereo was!! not to mention all the damage that the thieves did to the van.... it's in the garage as we speak. There were MANY people who came to my aid with this issue... I am so grateful to have such a great support network, even people I've never met before... thanks Lynn Saxberg for writing a column about it in The Ottawa Citizen, & thanks to Colin Mills at Healey Disc for offering to replace the stolen Cd's. Big Love goes out to you all.

Bring Back the Sound!

500 copies of Lindsay's new CD, "Sound", have been stolen!!! We need your help. If anyone knows anything, or has seen anyone driving Lindsay's signature white van since Monday, Oct 8th, or where the CDs might be, (cause it's hard to hide 500 CDs), please contact manager@lindsayferguson.com. The van itself, as you might guess, is now less important that getting the CDs back. No charges will be made if the CDs are returned, but that she'll be 100% anonymous with the entire matter.
