Autumn Blues n News

What a glorious time of year. The air is alive with new scents from old, the horizon dull and bright at the same time, the wind and stars blissfully fresh and clear... and me without a penny to my name. Thank heavens I can see the beauty in life, and the creativity,  musically, never ends. Thank heavens going for a bicycle ride down windy rocky roads doesn't cost money! Alas, to be a full time music maker in a coin driven world where one in 10 music makers don't make it! What kind of decision did I make, to be a contender in a race that is almost impossible to win? I ask myself this question on many occassions and always come up with another question: Life or death? I choose life and with life, in my world, comes music and not just in my stereo, mp3, computer or from someone else completely...no, I have this musical gift and it was given to me by the cosmos and the cosmos have demanded that I share...so share I will, I do, I must! Here is a clip of one of my favourite songs, sung this past year at The Ottawa Bluesfest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SayF4Vrsto&feature=related it's called "Sky'n Me" and I have recorded it "album" form, along with 6 other songs, which hopefully I will one day be able to press, put up on Itunes and sell from the stage... outta my hands into yours (sorry for the big huge font. just happened all of a sudden and I don't know how to change it back!) Anyway, I hope to sing for you soon, and if you are in the Ottawa area on the 14th of November (my birthday!!) I am singing at The Rainbow Bistro... it's a Saturday night... come on down... I'll be in fine form then... just a rant today, on a grey day in October... Lxo

BIG MONEY SHOT!!! Here WE come!!!

Yeppers, that's right, we (the Band & I) have been rehearsing like mad to get some great sounds happening for our appearance on Friday night, this Friday the 25th of September at Live Lounge in Ottawa on York Street, as part of The Big Money Shot, a music competition put on by Live 88.5 Radio...we are on at 10:20pm sharp!! Up against some other great Ottawa talent, Becky Abbott, Tara Holloway and Brian Simms. This is the $5000 round and should we win this we will advance to the next round, which is the $25 000 round!! If we rock THAT night, we have the chance to win $250 000 on the FINAL night which takes place in late November. In any case, this is quite the competition and we are lucky to have been chosen to compete.  If you are reading this and in the Ottawa area, please come down in support, as every set of hands clapping for us HELPS!! Thanks much and I will most definitely keep you posted on the outcomes.... wish us luck!! Lindsay xo

Summer Daze only 21 days left...

Hi Readers, GORGEOUS people out there! I am always chuffed when someone comes up to me and says "oooh, Lindsay, it's always nice to keep up with what is happening in your musical life via your blogs" it's great to see the faces of the eyes reading, and it doesn't happen very often, so this one's for YOU!!  Once again, it has taken me forever to write, I don't know why...I guess it's the pure craziness that leads my life... crazy times take me over and I pick up the Guitar instead of the computer...which is just as good I guess, it just means that you will have to come to a show and listen to a song instead of reading little black type-written words....so THERE! I feel better now... STOP the guilt!! What a summer indeed, East Coast, West Coast, Mainland Lakes, Rivers, Stages inside & out...campfires, BBQ's, festivals, trips, Mummies, Daddies, Docks, Boats, ATV's, new guitars, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Rainbows, Thunder Storms, Nude Beaches, Corn on the Cob, sun dresses, freckles, WIND, family, new songs....NEW ALBUM!! YEah!! I haven't put it out yet, and what started as a project for house-concert promotion, looks like it will evolve into a "vocals & guitar only" record. I get asked if I have anything like that at shows in CD form, and now I can say YES!! I just have to create a cover and get some printed....it's only seven songs, and it only took seven hours.... but all new songs!! Yay!! I'll keep you posted on when this little package of LindsaySongs can get into your hot little hands!! Until then, keep smiling and enjoy those last 21 days of Summer... xoxox

Glow-Rious

Facing fears is a natural progression in order to make beautiful things happen. This past weekend, I travelled 50miles down a white water river in a white water raft, and I did NOT fall out. It was one of the scariest things I have ever embarked upon, but I did it and am a better woman for it. I spent four days up in the Chilkotens, Northern British Columbia Canada, hired to perform for thrill seeking individuals, not knowing that I too would be one of them. Travelling vertical in white water, something like a rollercoaster effect, was never my idea of fun, but now that I have completed the task at hand, I may just try it again one day!! Many thanks to Brian McCutcheon (ROAM) for believing that a musical guest on such an adventure would be a highlight, the highlight for me was his energy and belief in this small town clutzy, non sportswoman. What a blast, and I really have no words except to say, I believe, I desire and I am refreshed. A new song is a must… the mountains, fresh air and stunning waters out there is life changing indeed. I am flying right now, literally, somewhere over Manitoba and I can still feel the buzz (could be my 3rd cup of coffee) I am on my way to BLUESKIES MUSIC FESTIVAL, another little spot I like to call heaven on earth. My next Ottawa show is on Thursday the 13th of August at Zaphod Beeblebrox with Chris Velan and Ana Miura, a couple of talented music makers, if I do say so myself!! Life is beautiful and I am so very thankful for all of it. I truly hope to sing for you soon!!! Check out youtube for some great videos of me & my band, shot at this years’ Ottawa Bluesfest!! Ciao from 40000 feet up in the air… somewhere over Manitoba I think… Lindsay xox

Vancouver SEA

Greetings from 40000 feet up in the air! What a treat to be up here looking down on the beautiful world below. I am on my way to Vancouver to play my first gig out there! I’m stoked! The last time I was on the West Coast was almost 15years ago!! I remember thinking that I could never spend too long away from those heavenly mountains, and everyone that knows me, says that once I get out there, there will be no coming back. Who knows what the future will hold, the Ocean and the Mountains in one place???? Could be too good to be true! In any case I will certainly make the most of my trip and soak it all up!! The last 12 days of my life were spent listening to and dancing along with some phenomenal bands from all over the world at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest. What an intense music festival… amazingly intense!!! 6 stages filled to the brim with Luscious Live Music… from Paolo Nutini to Les Claypool, from K’Naan to Cake from Ice Cube to Mother Mother to KISS!! The list is too long and I’m not sure I remember everything… what a whirlwind of stellar, legendary stuff… I implore you to take off 2 weeks next July and come to Ottawa, really, Ottawa!! It’s not as conservative & dry as everyone thinks. Truly! Anyway, if you happen to read this and are looking to check out a gig, I am getting better at uploading my gig listings here on this site, otherwise check out my MYSPACE site www.myspace.com/lindsaylive Also check out some videos that were shot at the Bluesfest by going to youtube and type in my name, I think there are already about 3 up there… including a tribute to Michael Jackson… “Don’t Stop (til you get enough). What a royal blast July has been. Type soon, next time from the ground perhaps??? Lindsay xo
